The IWT Program provides funding to established North Carolina businesses to help

assist with educational and skills training for current workers.  It is designed to benefit businesses and employees; by enhancing the skills of employees, thereby increasing employee productivity and the potential for company growth.  Maximum lifetime funding for the Lumber River Area IWT Grant is $120,000 per business entity.

If your company is forced to reorganize, shutdown or experience anything that causes the dislocation (layoff) of workers, we will coordinate efforts at state and local levels to assist you and those dislocated workers. Led by the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Division of Workforce Solutions and local workforce development professionals, a rapid response team meets with companies on short notice and in confidentiality to assess potential layoffs and closings, and to work together to plan the most appropriate response.

On-the-job training, also known as OJT, is conducted by a private for profit, public or private non-profit employer, that occurs while an individual is engaged in productive work, learning the skills and information necessary for full and adequate performance on the job. OJT training is an excellent option for employers that are willing to make a long-term commitment towards employment. OJT is limited in duration based upon the target occupation for which the participant is being trained, the participant's work experience and the service strategy.

  • OJT can increase a business’ profits by enabling the employer to lower the costs of hiring and training qualified workers.

  • The employer is reimbursed a percentage of the wages during the pre-agreed training period; 50%-90% reimbursement depending on number of employees.

  • OJT contracts are prepared and processed by staff at no cost to the employer; paperwork is minimal.

Designed to meet the special requirements of an employer (including a group of employers); Conducted with a commitment by the employer to employ an individual on successful completion of training.

The WorkKeys job profiling is a job analysis system that helps businesses identify the skills and skill levels employees must have to perform particular jobs effectively. The profiling procedure is designed to systematically develop accurate information through a task analysis, a skill analysis and skill ranking. Job profiling also works hand-in-hand with the Career Readiness Certification. By comparing job profiling information with CRC scores, businesses can make reliable decisions about hiring, training and program development. The Business Service Coordinator is a certified WorkKeys Profiler and is capable of facilitating groups of employees to complete the assessments.

The benefits of WorkKeys Job Profiling include:

  • Improves screening and selection

  • Improves effectiveness of training dollars
