Our New Home...

Under the leadership of our Board of Directors, the Lumber River Council of Governments has become the only regional council in the state to own and operate its own building. Below is a slideshow of photos and a description of the facility.

The new home of the Lumber River Council of Governments (LRCOG) was completed in September of 2008.  Located between the City of Lumberton and the Town of Pembroke, the LRCOG is situated on a 3.5 acre site in COMtech Park.  COMtech is a business and light industrial park located in Robeson County on NC Highway 711.

The new building has 13,885 square feet, slightly larger than the combined space of the two buildings previously occupied in Lumberton.  However, the layout and ease of use of the new facility makes it an asset for the region.

Office Space and Foyer

The new building is home for our full staff consisting of 28 members in four main divisions – Administration/Finance, Area Agency on Aging, Technical Assistance and Work Force Development.  Office are arranged in one of two wings off short corridors to maximize the use of available square footage.

The foyer and main entrance to the building  sits between the wings and is the central focus of the building. A small seating area is available here for guests.

Conference Rooms

The building has two conference rooms for use by LRCOG programs and our member governments for meetings and training.

The smaller conference room has 500 square feet and can accommodate 30 to 40 people depending on arrangement.  It has a flat panel screen which can be linked to a laptop computer for presentations.  A Smart Board is also located in this room to enhance training and meetings by incorporating new technology.

The larger room is 2,000 square feet and can accommodate approximately 125 people in a classroom style setting.  Restrooms and a complete kitchen are in this area also.  The room is equipped with a ceiling mounted PowerPoint projector, a wall mounted flat panel screen, both of which can be linked to laptop computers and a surround sound system.

This conference room also opens onto a large patio area which will allow for usage during suitable weather.

Kitchen and Service Hall

The building is equipped with a full kitchen, typically used for warming foods.  Freezer space is included in this kitchen for our Senior Nutrition Program.  The kitchen opens onto a service hall which accesses the main conference room for ease in serving banquet-type meals.
