Senior Community Services Employment Program

logo

The Title V SCSEP, also known as the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), provides job training and temporary employment for older adults wanting to get back in to the workforce. The program works to place eligible participants in jobs that provide the best available opportunity to move into regular employment. Funding for this program comes through the Older Americans Act.

Interested persons must be 55 years of age and meet income eligibility requirements. Participants receive skill enhancement opportunities, physical examinations, and employment related counseling and assistance in the transition to employment through the program.

Please click on the questions below to learn more about this program.

Who qualifies for this program?

The program is geared to serve low-income persons 55 or older who are unemployed and have poor employment prospects.

How do I know if I am eligible for this program?

First, you must be able to show some documentation that you are 55 years of age or older. A birth certificate, driver's license or similar documents will work.

Secondly, we must be able to verfiy your income and make certain it is not more than 125% of the federal poverty rate. An assessment is required and is conducted by appointment only. Call the Staff Contact, Kristen Elk, for an appointment. These are generally conducted at the LRCOG office.

What kind of work is available and how much does it pay?

Since the program funds come from the Federal Government, participants are paid at least the federal minimum wage. Generally, participants work about 20 hours a week at jobs coordinated through the Lumber River AAA with interested agencies and organizations.
